Monday

He spends more and more time outside his room and is less and less happy when he has to go to his room. I think he likes Madeline.

He thinks he's sneaky and we won't know where he's hiding when it's time to go to his room.

When Madeline's being cranky and blocks his path, he just lays down and waits her out.
He found his spot on Alex's dresser.

Just like with Nikolai, Madeline likes to play chase with Handsome Jack and will only screech occasionally.

Playtime

The kids are old enough now that they all run at the door when they hear me turning the door knob. The love playing inside the room (cuz they have a sweet set-up) and outside on the landing. The only one who didn't come out is little Minuet, who stayed in her room and played and sometimes meowed because she was lonely.

My little Samba

Mambo up front.

Madeline and Samba

Of course, Samba is the first to venture to see Madeline.

I assume that Madeline feels about kittens the way I feel about babies. She doesn't mind them, but she doesn't want them in her face and she definitely does not want them running toward her. Keep that lil thing at a nice, safe distance.

After she scared baby away, she wanted to remind me how cute she is.

Well that was embarrassing.

I let Handsome Jack out while Madeline was downstairs, but he wasn't really interested in exploring, so we sat in his room on the couch for a little while. Eventually he felt comfortable enough to leave his room, so we went into the other room and he looked around. I left him for a second to go get something from his room, and of course that's when Madeline goes running in to see who's in her room. I run after her, and don't see him. Then, I look in the bathroom, and

he's peeing in her litterbox. She's shocked, I'm shocked, and Handsome Jack does not care. As soon as he finishes, he leaps out and runs right up to her. They sniff noses a couple times, but at the third one she decides she's done and she hisses. He backs up, and goes back to exploring. She follows him around, I'm assuming to ambush him when he's not looking. I follow them around, just in case she decides to be mean.

He saw her come to the edge of the bed, and thought that maybe she wanted to play, so he chirped at her and hopped up to see her...

And she promptly hissed at him to let him know that no, she certainly does not want to play with him. The nerve.

I love this guy. The FIV+ cats are always the sweetest. I think they just try to be friendly with the wrong crowd, and end up with FIV. And a snakebite. Can't win.

Handsome Jack at large

Handsome Jack got some time out of his room last night and this morning. Last night he was pretty nervous, so he stayed upstairs. I decided to let Madeline out, too, and see how they did. She hissed at him through the door, but he didn't react, he just backed up. She came into his room while he was in a corner and couldn't really see her, and I kept her from cornering him and being mean.

She backed off and went to sit in the tube in the hallway. He got curious and came out, but didn't see her and walked right by into her (our) room. She was right behind him, about six inches back, but he still didn't know she was there. I told her to be nice, at which point he turned around, they saw each other, both panicked, and she jumped right over him to go into her room and he ran under her to run back to his room.

It was so funny, I was laughing too hard to tell Alex what happened.

This morning, I left her up and let him out to see how he did with Honey. He did great. He did so well, Honey was actually interested in him instead of avoiding eye contact, which means she's not afraid that he'll hurt her. He rubbed on her a couple times, but wasn't too interested in her. This time he explored the whole downstairs and really didn't want to go back into his room.

Once he and Madeline get used to each other, I'm hoping he can spend more time out.

Playtime

He's still working on it, but he's definitely got some spunk in him.

More loves

I think he's going to be just fine.

This is how he subtly hints that he does NOT want to be wiped tonight.
