Bessie on her couch

She immediately hopped down and started circling me to remind me that she hadn't gotten her breakfast yet.

Satsuma

My sweet boy. My first bonded. First to eat wet food, first to use the litter box, first to climb the tower.

Ramone

Ramone is my special little boy. He is the smallest of the group. He hasn't taken to canned food, so we're going to have to start pushing him soon. Tonight he wanted to cuddle instead of going back in the kennel.

Honey approves

Bessie didn't seem concerned with Honey. She hopped right up, sniffed noses, then thumped once and hopped off, just so we know who the boss is.

Bessie

This gorgeous girl has been with us since Sunday. She's spunky, soft, and friendly. She's available for adoption, but I'm not sure from who. More on that later!

Breakthrough!

I caught Satsuma with a piece of dry food in his mouth. I thought it was litter, because he randomly picked it up off the ground, but it was food so I gave it back to him. That's when I got the bright idea to try a different canned food and - TA DA! - he dove right in. And Tabitha was right behind him. These little guys are so awesome.

Baby blues

This little guy is killing me. Tonight, when everyone else went to mom for sleep time, he decided to curl up on me and go to sleep. This is the first time he's done this. I humored him for about 20 minutes, then tried to get him in the crate. He kept crying and running back to me. It was breaking my heart.

I feel like the cloth monkey in Harlow's study. I want to keep him but I know I shouldn't. *sigh*

Too much cute

Kittens on the go

The kids have started to venture out of the box. Today, Meredith (Merrie, for short) was the first one out to explore. Tabitha (Tabbie, obviously) was next, but her photos turned out very poorly. Satsuma (possible name change, maybe Cutie?) and Ramone were next, and they hung out for a long time before realizing they were starving and had to go back. Any day now, they'll be running amuck.

Kitten season

When Zeta left us in February, we held off on taking another dog in anticipation of kitten season. When it didn't come, I fell in love with Chester and brought him home.

Kitten season puts more stress on shelter workers who foster just because we see all the ones in need and know the sad outcome if they don't find foster homes or rescues. I held off as long as I could until Ramona was scheduled to be put down in the morning. She's feral and can't go to a regular foster home, and no rescue could take her. I've been asking to try a feral mom with kittens, with the plan of spaying and releasing mom after the kittens are weaned. It's so sad to have an entire foster put to sleep because no one can take them.

Mom has gotten used to me, and while I don't think she'll ever let me touch her, we have a pretty good feral-caretaker relationship. I am totally in love with the kittens, and little Satsuma perks up at my voice when I greet Ramona. The kittens are mobile this morning, while even last night they were content to roll around in their box.
