Outtakes!

Here are a few of my favorite photos from our photo shoot with Shannon. You can see the first set from March 2014 on her Landfill Dogs page.

Zeta, almost one year later.

We had a follow-up photo shoot with Mary Shannon Johnstone for her ongoing Landfill Dogs project.

We were all very happy with how the day went, even if it got strangely and suddenly cold and windy. Zeta did great and was on her best behavior. She walked right with us, was very confident in her walk and was glad to show off some of her new tricks. She did not bark at the strangers she saw, though they were all at a distance. She played a little fetch and ate some grass.

March 2014, we'd taken a scared, scraggly dog to have her photo taken. Physically she was just starting to heal and we had no idea how damaged she was psychologically. Mary Shannon was very understanding, but Zeta's behavior was inappropriate and she probably just wasn't ready.

This is one of her old photos. If you look closely, you can see that she'd had puppies recently. Her fur is pocked and dark. Her ears are ragged. There are sores on her leg. We fixed all those things, and today she is happy and healthy.

All she needs now is a family. She deserves it.

What's so great about Zeta?

Lots!

• Is healthy and happy.
• Rides great in a car.
• Is house-trained and crate-trained and can be left out all day with no accidents (though stuffed cat toys will be disemboweled if made accessible).
• Gets along just fine with adult cats unsupervised all day, even if she probably annoys them.
• Travels well (can be trusted in new places).
• Does fine crated with her foster sister, even though she doesn't need to be crated.
• Is quiet, but lets you know when strangers are at the door.
• Is not picky about food.
• Learns the daily routine and will remind you that it's potty time, dinner time, etc.
• Is content to run around the yard and inside (long walks not required!).
• Likes to fetch and be praised for bringing the ball back, indoors and outdoors!
• Loves to cuddle and get attention.  Perfect TV-watching companion!
• Settles well at night (great snuggler).
• Loves to follow commands and be rewarded: could potentially learn doggy agility courses.

Happy to report that Zeta now gets along very well with the neighbor kids, probably around 8 years old. They learned to not stare in her eyes and now one of the girls says she likes Zeta more than Honey now. She's nuts ;)

Whodathunk?

I never thought I'd say this, but:

Poor Zeta.

Since we got Buddy, she's been the only good girl. She hasn't peed or pooped in the house, she hasn't chewed anything she's not supposed to, and she puts up with the most awful behavior from the puppy. He chews on her mercilessly and she doesn't correct him (which does him no favors). Honey is beside herself with worry and has had multiple accidents in the house, and poor Buddy had diarrhea after his surgery so bad that I had to stay up with him and take him out throughout the night.

We'll be glad when things are back to "normal".
