Gone to rescue
Said goodbye to my boys today. They went to Feline Canine Fellowship Coalition. I miss them terribly, but hopefully they'll each get the awesome home that they deserve. Fingers crossed that it's soon.

Cats, cats, cats
For the first time ever, we have three adult cats in the house. I'm learning a lot about their personalities and how they interact with other animals. Their behaviors have changed as they settle in with each other.
Madeline:
Madeline:
- People- Very, very affectionate with her people, shy but comes around to strangers pretty quickly. Will let me pick her up and carry her around, but jumps if my husband picks her up.
- Dogs- Wary of new dogs but can live peacefully with cat friendly dogs, though she is not above smacking a dog in the face while it's sleeping (but no claws). Kind of plays with Zeta, in a weird way.
- Cats- She will tolerate other cats and even play in her own way, but hasn't shown any inclination to becomes "besties" with anyone. It takes her a few days to warm up and relax, and she can still be a bit stand-offish.
- She seems to prefer human companionship over other animals. She loves to play with people.
- People- Very affectionate with people. Careful around strangers, but friendly. Tolerates being picked up and seems to like being held if he feels safe.
- Dogs- Allows light sniffing and play, but is generally indifferent. Will defend himself if he feels threatened.
- Cats- Will play in his own way. Likes to chase (that's probably the most exercise he gets). Keeps tabs on the other cats. Does not seem inclined to make friends.
- People- Very affectionate but very skittish. Loves attention but doesn't like being picked up. Will crawl into a lap.
- Dogs- Does not like sudden movements. Will avoid when possible. Can tolerate sleeping and motionless dogs.
- Cats- Very interested. Reacts well to correction and rudeness. I really hope we can find him a feline friend, because he really seems to want to make friends, and the other two are not having it.

Kids
I'm happily surprised :)
Btw, totally awesome that Nikolai decided to come downstairs. Usually he hangs out upstairs and sounds like a rhino running around.

How Nik deals with crazy
Nikolai is remarkable. He is very chill, in some ways, and reminds me of Neko, so I figured he'd be fine with Madeline. And he is. She is being territorial and fearful, but mostly good and getting used to him slowly. I'm hopeful, but have to monitor closely for fights because of his FIV. So far, so good.

What I've learned about Nikolai
• He is, 100%, someone's lost pet. I'm so sad no one has come forward for him.
• He LOVES to eat. He eats kibble like he is used to eating canned food (without chewing).
• He is very good about using his litterbox and is neat about it.
• He LOVES attention and makes biscuits like nobody's business.
• He purrs.
• He plays, especially with wands and hanging toys. He pulled the eyes and ears off of one of his mice.
• He has terrible breath but his teeth look good.
• He is NOT good with dogs, but seemed happy to see Madeline, even though she is mean, so we didn't let them meet.
• I am probably allergic to him.
• He needs a home!!

Nice guy
I'm so excited to bring this guy home tomorrow. He'll be taking the Baron's room for a little while and the Baron will be on the adoption floor. Nick (his name for now) is very shy and scared, so we're taking him to see if we can help him. The Baron is very friendly, so maybe he'll find his new family on the adoption floor. If not, we'll see if the boys can get along. Nick is FIV+, too, and 8 years old, so I think they might be good companions. Maybe we'll see!
