Frank's first time down stairs

Frank acted like she had never been down stairs before, but she quickly got the hang of it and would run up and down and up and down.

Frank and Honey

Frank loved Honey. She tried to make friends with Madeline, but Madeline didn't want anything to do with her. Frank would run up to Honey and circle her and jump in the air. Honey was great with her when she wasn't too scared and running away.

Frank

We found out about a week after she left us that she died the day after she was spayed. These photos are bittersweet now. She had such a love for life and was so much fun.

Meet Frank

Frank came to us from a couple stoners whose brother moved to Michigan and left her behind. She was used to having the run of the house, and the guys had no idea how to care for her. The SPCA wanted her, so we agreed to take her temporarily until one of their foster homes became available.

She dug a hole in the carpet all the way down to the boards. And tried to do the same thing in all the other corners.

Christmas kitty

Xanadu (new name pending) is settling in well and winning over his new brother. He also loves the Christmas tree:

I miss this little guy, but I'm glad he found a great home of his very own.

Sasha

This is Sasha.

In anticipation of a cat crisis at the shelter, I offered to take her and her brother into foster together and clear up two kennels. They were surrendered together about two weeks ago because the owner was too stressed out to care for them. They are both seven years old and have been together forever.

Her brother, Koby, was adopted. They didn't want to adopt two cats, so Sasha was left behind.

Sasha is very friendly and very affectionate. She's also very lonely, now, because she is in a home where she lives in a room by herself, and cannot come out because I am allergic to her. I try to spend as much time with her as I can, but I start crying and having trouble breathing and have to leave.

Sasha has been losing weight since she arrived at the shelter, and she's not eating here. She ate a small amount at the shelter last night, but that was after spending hours with people, not being alone. I can't spend hours with her here.

I think she is cat friendly and would be okay with dogs. She's never been around dogs, but she didn't try to attack my Honey. She found the litterbox on her own and has been a very good house guest. She like her little scratch pad.

Adopted!

I am thrilled to announce that our little Xanadu was adopted on Saturday. I look forward to hearing how he's settling in! He had already made himself at home within an hour of getting there, so I'm sure he's doing just fine.

In other awesome news, our boy Handsome Jack was adopted from the SPCA.

His adopter wrote: This is Emmet (Handsome Jax while at the SPCA). He is very happy in his new home, thank you.

Mars

We had this little guy for a few days while he was getting over a cold, so he could have his surgery and go home. I'm sure he's doing just fine, too. Seemed like a nice family. You can't tell from this photo, but he had little tiny legs! Shy but sweet.

Best baby

Xanadu took to the harness pretty quickly. He'll never need to be crated again! He rides great in the car and lays down quickly.

More Henry

His poor little bald butt.

Always too much cute

Xanadu gets Madeline

Cuddly Ol' Henry

Henry was getting so lonely, we decided it would be better for him to have a home where he could get more attention, so we gave him to another foster family. It was a rough transition for him, but after a couple days he came around. I miss him. Hopefully he'll be available for adoption soon.

Adopted!

Handsome Jack was adopted!!! We were planning to visit him this coming week since he had returned from the sick room, but he was just too awesome and someone beat us to it. Best of luck to him in his new home, and much love to him forever.

Heinrich

Tuesday, two young women walked into the lobby. One was carrying a black-longhaired cat. He was on his back, with one leg sticking up in the air. She said she found him that morning, but couldn't keep him. She didn't have her ID, so her friend signed the cat over as a stray.

I later found him in the feral/stray room, unvaccinated and with no name. I was confused, since he was so docile and if that girl had handled him like that as a stray, he should have made it through vaccination with no trouble. I talked to him and pet him, but he stared off into the distance and didn't react to me at all. The intake team pulled him, vaccinated him, named him and asked the vets to take a look at him, since he was acting like he couldn't see anyone. He was covered in scabs and had significant hair loss, probably from fleas and living on the streets.

Turned out there was nothing wrong with his eyes. He was just so scared that he was completely shut down. The first day, he was laying in his litterbox, unresponsive. I put a towel in his kennel, and he hid under it once I left. The next day, his towel was gone and he was back in the litterbox, so I got him a bed and flipped it upside down. This is what I saw when I checked in on him later:

He hadn't eaten, hadn't used the litterbox. Other than hiding, he didn't really move. I kept talking to him and petting him, and he eventually started looking at me and making biscuits. After another day, he would move his head to get chin rubs. When I would call him, he'd pop his head out.

Turns out, that girl who carried him in was actually his owner. She came in Wednesday to reclaim him, and was shocked that we required photo ID, and proof of ownership, and a fee, and that she would get him vet care. He wasn't a stray from the streets. He was someone's pet dumped at the shelter without even a name.

His stray hold ended, and I couldn't let him go anywhere else. I brought him home.

Within minutes, he was out from under his blankie and in my lap. He ate like he hadn't eaten in days because he hadn't. He was so starved for food and affection that he didn't know which one to do. Madeline and Xanadu arguing outside the room scared him, but he looked to me for reassurance and I guaranteed him that they did not have thumbs and could not open the door to get to him. He seemed okay with that. I combed off a lot of scabs, and he seemed to enjoy it.

When I left, he went back into his box to lay down, but did not hide under his blanket. I hope he feels better, eats a lot and finally uses the litterbox. His fur will grow back, and he will find a good forever home.
