Just your average "Good Dog"
We're not sure why Buster hasn't been adopted.
Heck, no one's even asked about him.
He's ready to be your best friend. To greet you at the door, talk to you, play with you, and get belly rubs.
What more could you ask for?

Gimlet the Great
I am an 8-year-old kitten (don't tell the shelter, but I'm younger than they think ;p). My name is Gimlet, and I have 26 toes (most cats only have 18). I came to the shelter in such bad shape that they didn't think I was going to make it, but they didn't know just how tough I am. I went from a measly 6 lbs to over 10 lbs! I'm a big strong boy, and I've got a clean bill of health (and the medical work-up to back it up). I love love love to play, and I hope my new home has a cat or cats or kittens for me to play with. In fact, if you're thinking about fostering for the shelter (and you totally should!), I would be the perfect host. I'm not crazy about dogs, but as long as I have my own space, I can co-exist peacefully. Please email my foster parents to learn even more about me!

Good news!
It's not hyperthyroid! Tell your friends!
Turns out the mass is benign and non-functioning, and all other lab results were normal, so Gimlet is available for adoption! So proud of my rowdy old man!

Gimlet and the kittens
A common symptom of hyperthyroid is "my old cat is acting like a kitten again!" Which is cute, but not normal, and it's like the cat is on speed: it strains the heart and the rest of the body in turn. I'm not sure if he'll still want to play with them in 3 weeks, but for now, he's happy to have friends.
His favorite place to play is behind the curtain.
The kittens were playing under the bed, and as hard as he tried, he couldn't get them to come play with him.
So he looked on in disappointment.
| Everyone is staring at him because he was being silly and playing under the dresser. |

Gimlet now
He got a bath.
And he felt so much better.
He gained more than 4 lbs in one month.
He learned how to play.
And he finally relaxed.
And soon, he'll receive treatment for his thyroid. There'll be a 2 week quarantine period where he'll be radioactive, then we'll get to meet the real him when he's not high on thyroxine. I can't wait to meet the happy, healthy Gimlet.

Gimlet then
This was Gimlet.
He was brought to the shelter by animal control as a stray. They guessed that he was 15 years old and in end-stage hyperthyroid. He weighed 6 lbs.
The moment I saw him, I knew I wanted to bring him home. He was labeled "Not for rehoming", but he asked me not to let him die in the shelter. He said he had a lot of life left to live and he'd like to enjoy what little time he had left.
So I talked to my husband, I talked to management, and I brought him home for hospice care.
He was skinny, dirty, and covered in flea dirt. He didn't have a lot of hair. But he was sweet.
And he was hungry.

Gala 134136
Gala is a very special girl.
Not only is she gorgeous, but she was also a great mom, definitely the best mama cat we've had. She's been gentle, friendly, sweet and quiet, even when we had to give her meds, which most cats get angry about. She didn't hold a grudge, and is always happy for chin rubs.
Since her mothering days are over, she's been spending some time at work with me behind the front desk. She loves to help.
She spends most of the day laying around and being adorable.
Don't you need a little extra sweetness in your life?

Cheddar 134137
Hi there! I'm Cheddar! I'm a sweet, adorable orange tabby kitten looking for a great forever family. I'm laid-back and easy going, but I also love to play. I can pretty much handle anything that comes my way.
I'm kind of a smarty-pants because I learned about "food" first, and I used the big-kitty litterbox way before anyone else. I'm pretty advanced and smart.
I'd love to go to a family with another cat or kittens. You should check out my siblings and my mom, Gala, too! They're all pretty awesome.
If you'd like to learn more about me or set up a meeting with me, email my foster parents at diadrascrittersATgmailDOTcom.
